Binance review 2026: fees, countries, KYC, security, who it fits

Binance suits people who trade often and want low entry fees: spot starts at 0.100% for both maker and taker, and 0.075% if you pay in BNB. It is a custodial exchange with a single mandatory KYC level. Availability depends heavily on your country, and Russia and parts of the EU are restricted.

POOL BTC is an independent comparison site for bitcoin mining pools and the services miners use, including exchanges where they sell coins. We are not Binance, and nothing here is investment advice. The facts below come from Binance's official pages checked on 2026-10-19, plus press reports and market data sites that are named as such in the text.

What is Binance?

Binance is a crypto exchange launched in 2017. It offers spot trading, Convert, P2P, Binance Pay, Simple Earn and Futures. It is a custodial service: you trade and hold coins on the exchange, not in your own wallet. Binance also runs a separate mining pool, which we cover in a different review.

There is a small conflict on the founding date. CoinMarketCap says June 2017, while the About page on Binance's site says July 2017, so we say 2017. The About page names Changpeng Zhao, Yi He and Heina Chen as founders. According to CoinMarketCap, Richard Teng has been CEO since November 2023. The About page does not state where the global headquarters is.

User numbers also disagree. The About page cites 250 million registered users by January 2025, while press coverage in December 2025 reported more than 300 million. The press figure is secondary, and the official page looks older, so treat both as a range rather than a fact.

On size, CoinMarketCap ranked Binance first among spot exchanges on 2026-10-19, with 24 hour spot volume of about $8.15 billion, roughly 98,465 BTC. CoinGecko showed about $8.28 billion, 507 coins and 1,371 pairs the same day. The number of coins and pairs is not stated on the official site (checked 2026-10-19), so the CoinGecko count is a third party figure.

For bitcoin holders, the useful parts are these. You can deposit and withdraw BTC on the Bitcoin network and on Lightning. Lightning is for Binance.com users only, may be unavailable in some regions and needs app version 2.67.0 or newer, per an FAQ updated on 2025-12-19. Simple Earn shows a live BTC APR that changes, so the rate is not stated here: read it in the app. Binance Card availability varies by region, so check it before you rely on it.

How much does Binance charge?

Spot trading on the Regular tier costs 0.100% maker and 0.100% taker. Paying fees in BNB gives a 25% discount, which brings both to 0.075%. Higher tiers depend on 30 day volume and BNB holdings. Convert, P2P and card purchases each have their own cost rules.

Tier30 day volume and BNBMakerTaker
Regularnone0.100%0.100%
Regular, fees paid in BNBnone0.075%0.075%
VIP 11M USD or more and 5 BNB or more0.090%0.100%
VIP 25M USD or more and 25 BNB or more0.080%0.100%
VIP 320M USD or more and 100 BNB or more0.040%0.060%
VIP 94B USD or more and 5,500 BNB or more0.011%0.023%

At VIP 1 the BNB discount gives 0.0675% maker and 0.075% taker. USDC pairs on the Regular tier have a taker fee of 0.095%, or 0.07125% with BNB. All of this comes from the official fee schedule.

Futures need a caveat. The USDS-M example rates on the page are 0.02% maker and 0.05% taker, and the page itself calls them hypothetical. A 10% discount applies with BNB, and the page was updated on 2026-05-01. The fee table on that page showed no records when we checked, so we cannot give you a confirmed futures rate.

Other products:

  • Convert. Binance says it does not include traditional trading fees, and Instant mode has no additional fees. The support FAQ warns that the price may differ from other venues, so compare the quote with the order book.
  • P2P. Both maker and taker pay a fee, ranging from 0% to 0.35% depending on the fiat market and pair, per the merchant guidelines. An older FAQ saying takers pay nothing is outdated since 2023-09-18.
  • Card purchase. The percentage is not stated on the help page (updated 2025-12-09). The fee is shown on the payment screen, and your bank may add its own charge because card crypto purchases can be treated as quasi cash.
  • BTC withdrawal. The on-chain fee and minimum are not stated in what we could read (checked 2026-10-19). The withdrawal page shows the fee before you confirm. An anti scam hold on withdrawals can last up to 24 hours.

If you sell mined coins, withdrawal and trading costs eat into income. Run your own numbers in our mining calculator.

Who is Binance a good fit for, and who should skip it?

Binance fits active spot traders, people who want P2P with many local payment methods and users who like a large product range in one account. It fits less well if you need a regulated EU service right now, live in a restricted country or want a fully transparent custody model.

A good fit:

  • Frequent traders who can use limit orders and pay fees in BNB.
  • Users in countries with local P2P markets, where payment methods matter more than card fees.
  • People who want Spot, Convert, Earn and Futures under one login and are comfortable with a custodial exchange.

A weaker fit:

  • Residents of Russia, who face restrictions covered in the next section.
  • EU users, because press reports describe limits on new registrations and services (details below).
  • Anyone who wants exact numbers before signing up: the withdrawal fee, futures rate and country list all need a check in the app or terms.

Which countries can use Binance, and what KYC does it require?

The full list of prohibited countries could not be retrieved from the official page (checked 2026-10-19). Check the official list and the Terms of Use before registering. Binance.US exists for US persons, and we do not assert its details. Registration needs one KYC level, called Verified.

Russia. In April 2022, after the EU fifth sanctions package, Russian citizens and residents with assets above 10,000 EUR were moved to withdraw only. Smaller accounts and Russians who confirmed residence abroad were not affected, per the official announcement. P2P ruble support ended on 2024-01-31 at 00:00 UTC, according to an official notice from December 11, 2023, which pointed users to CommEX. We found no official Russia announcement for 2025 or 2026. One press report, from the Moscow Times, says Russia based clients are limited to ruble P2P, but its date is doubtful, so treat it as unconfirmed.

CIS. For Kazakhstan, Ukraine and Belarus we found no official ban statement, and the status of each country is unverified. A September 2026 press report mentions memoranda between Binance and Kazakh regulators, but no licence was confirmed.

Latin America and Argentina. P2P added BRL, ARS, COP, PEN and MXN on 2020-03-18, per an official announcement. For Brazil, a Binance blog post announced Central Bank authorization as a "21st regulatory milestone" in early 2025. For Argentina, the press reported a CNV VASP registration in October 2024. Which P2P pairs are live in each country now is not confirmed, so check in the app.

EU. Press reports from June 2026 said Binance withdrew its MiCA licence bid in Greece and limited some services. They also say new registrations in France, Italy, Spain and Poland stopped, and that crypto services ceased from 2026-07-01 according to secondary reports, while funds stay withdrawable. None of this is confirmed on Binance's own site. EU readers should look for official announcements before depositing.

KYC. There is a single mandatory level. You provide your country, a document (passport, ID or driver's licence depending on the country), both sides of it and a liveness selfie. Review typically takes up to 48 hours, sometimes longer, per a help page updated on 2026-06-05. New users must verify for deposits, trading and withdrawals. Old unverified accounts are Withdraw Only: you can withdraw, cancel orders and close positions. Specific withdrawal limits are not stated on the page, so see the Identification page in your account.

How safe is Binance?

Binance has a SAFU emergency fund of about US$1 billion in crypto as of February 2026, and it states a 1:1 Proof of Reserves. Accounts support passkey or 2FA for withdrawals, a withdrawal whitelist and an anti phishing code. It is custodial, and the exchange has a record of regulatory trouble.

Details:

  • SAFU. The FAQ, updated on 2026-02-02, puts the emergency fund at roughly US$1 billion in crypto.
  • Proof of Reserves. The page says the exchange holds user assets 1:1, but the extract we saw had no ratio numbers. Crypto Briefing reported in August 2026, citing a snapshot of 2026-08-01, a BTC reserve ratio of 100.25%. That is a press figure, not an official one.
  • Account controls. Withdrawals are confirmed by passkey or 2FA. A withdrawal whitelist is available, and turning it off can trigger a pause of 24, 48 or 72 hours. There is an anti phishing code and a Binance Verify tool.
  • Custody. We found no official wording on the custody model. It is a custodial exchange, so Binance holds the keys.

Past events matter here. On 2019-05-07, 7,000 BTC, about 2% of its BTC, was taken from a hot wallet in one transaction. Binance covered it from SAFU, and by its announcement no user funds were affected. On 2023-11-21, Binance Holdings and Changpeng Zhao pleaded guilty in the US, per the Department of Justice. Binance agreed to pay $4.3 billion in penalties, and an independent monitor was appointed. The charges were conspiracy to violate the Bank Secrecy Act, failure to register as a money transmitter and IEEPA violations. Zhao stepped down as CEO.

P2P carries its own scam risks, described in the official guide: fake payment proofs, SMS spoofing, chargebacks, third party payments and people impersonating Binance. In a chargeback appeal, the seller's assets are frozen in that order, and investigations are "not immediate". P2P restrictions are appealed in the Restrictions Removal Center, otherwise through support.

How do you start on Binance?

You register, pass the single KYC level, then deposit and trade. Check availability in your country first. If it fits, you can register through our Binance referral link, which also gives you a fee rebate under current terms.

  1. Check that your country is not on the prohibited list and read the Terms of Use.
  2. Register through the link above and install the app from the App Store or Google Play.
  3. Complete Verified: country, document, both sides and a liveness selfie.
  4. Wait for review, typically up to 48 hours.
  5. Deposit by a method available in your country, then place a small test order.
  6. Turn on passkey or 2FA, the withdrawal whitelist and the anti phishing code.

Referral terms, per Binance's referral FAQ checked on 2026-10-19: under Referral Lite, a new user gets trading fee rebate vouchers. You can get up to $100 after a purchase over $50 by card, cash deposit or P2P, and up to $1,000 after cumulative Spot or Convert volume over $100. Vouchers arrive within 48 hours, offset Spot fees only and must be redeemed within 7 days. Once activated they are valid for 14 days, and API or bot trading does not qualify. The registration banner shows up to 100 USDT rebate for verified users. You can use only one referral mode. Amounts depend on current terms, so read them before registering.

Support runs 24/7 in chat, with an AI bot first and then a human. The number of supported languages is not stated (checked 2026-10-19).

What are the risks of using Binance?

The main risks are regulatory, custodial and country specific. The 2023 guilty plea shows past compliance failures, the EU situation rests on press reports, and Russian users face restrictions. P2P scams are a separate risk. Reserve figures and a SAFU fund are not guarantees.

  • Regulation. The 2023 US case ended in a $4.3 billion penalty and a monitor. Rules in the EU and other places are still moving.
  • Access. Your country can lose service or be restricted, and old unverified accounts are withdraw only.
  • Custody. If the exchange fails, you hold a claim, not coins. Do not keep long term savings on any exchange.
  • P2P fraud. Use only the payment name on the order, and release coins only after the money is in your account.
  • Unclear costs. The withdrawal fee, futures rate and card fee are not stated up front in what we read.

How does Binance compare with Bybit, OKX and Kraken?

On entry spot fees Binance and Bybit are level at 0.100% each way, and OKX has a slightly lower maker rate. Kraken is far more expensive at the entry tier and is closed to residents of Russia and Belarus. All four publish proof of reserves in some form.

FAQ

What are Binance's spot fees in 2026?

Regular tier is 0.100% maker and 0.100% taker, or 0.075% each if you pay in BNB. VIP 1 starts at 1M USD of 30 day volume and 5 BNB, with 0.090% maker and 0.100% taker.

Can I use Binance from Russia?

It is restricted. In April 2022 Russian accounts above 10,000 EUR went withdraw only, and ruble P2P ended on 2024-01-31. We found no official 2025 or 2026 announcement, and a press report on further limits is unconfirmed.

Is Binance available in Argentina and Brazil?

P2P added ARS and BRL in 2020, Brazil got a Central Bank authorization announced in early 2025, and the press reported a CNV registration in Argentina in October 2024. Current P2P pairs need a check in the app.

How long does Binance KYC take?

Typically within 48 hours, sometimes longer. There is one mandatory level, Verified, with a document and a liveness selfie.

Does Binance have proof of reserves?

Yes, the page states 1:1 holdings but showed no ratios in the extract we saw. A press report cites 100.25% for BTC on 2026-08-01. Treat that as secondary.

What does Binance charge to withdraw BTC?

Not stated in what we could read (checked 2026-10-19). The withdrawal page shows the fee before you confirm.

Is Binance worth it in 2026?

For active traders outside restricted countries, Binance is a reasonable choice on fees alone: 0.100% at entry and 0.075% with BNB are low next to Kraken's 0.40% and 0.80%. The cost is custody risk, a US guilty plea in 2023 and unsettled access in the EU and Russia. Check your country before depositing.
