WhatsMiner M60S review 2026: specs, real efficiency, price, payback, firmware, who it fits

The WhatsMiner M60S suits miners with cheap power, ideally under 0.07 USD per kWh, a single-phase 220 to 240 V outlet and a place that tolerates a loud air-cooled machine. It delivers 186 TH/s at 3441 W, or 18.5 J/TH, and at today's hashprice the break-even is about 0.09 USD per kWh. It is a poor fit for expensive electricity.

POOL BTC is an independent comparison site. We are not MicroBT, we do not sell miners, and nothing here is investment advice. Facts come from the MicroBT product manual and official shop checked on 2026-10-12, the third-party profitability pages named in the text and the official manuals of the alternatives. Profit figures are estimates for one day in time, not promises.

What is the WhatsMiner M60S?

The M60S is an air-cooled SHA-256 bitcoin miner from MicroBT, released in February 2024 on a 3 nm Samsung chip. It is rated at 186 TH/s and 3441 W with an efficiency of 18.5 J/TH, according to the product manual dated October 2024. The product line runs from 170 to 186 TH/s.

It uses two fans moving 350 CFM of air, measures 430 by 155 by 226 mm and needs an IEC C19 connector rated for at least 16 A. The power supply takes single-phase AC from 220 to 240 V, so unlike some immersion machines it does not need three-phase power. The working ambient range is minus 5 to plus 35 degrees Celsius.

There is no hydro or immersion version of the M60S. The immersion machines in the M6X family are the separate M66S and M66.

What are the official specs, and where do sources disagree?

Our site table used 186 TH/s, 3441 W and about 1,700 USD from June 2026, and the manual confirms the first two numbers. The official shop currently lists 3478 W without stating a hashrate, and a weight of 13.5 kg against 11.5 kg in the manual.

A benchmark of nine video tests collected on 2026-10-12 by ASICMinerpro shows an average of 184 TH/s (1.1% below spec) and 3573 W (3.8% above spec). Plan power for the higher number.

At 86 dB measured, this is not a machine for a flat or a room where people live. It needs a ventilated outbuilding or a hosting hall.

How much does the M60S cost?

The official shop price on 2026-10-12 is 1,692 USD, which is 9.10 USD per TH, with a 7-day delivery after full payment. Resellers range from 1,180 to 1,827 USD, so the market spread is large. The 1,700 USD in our June table still matches the official channel.

Used units are listed at 1,270 USD for a mixed 196T batch on one reseller site with no date, and a May 2026 blog puts the secondary market between 1,800 and 3,500 USD depending on condition. We treat the used market as unreliable.

Import duties for Russia, the CIS, Argentina and other countries are set locally. MicroBT does not publish them, so ask a freight forwarder for a landed price. Buy only from the official shop or an authorised distributor, since the manufacturer says nothing about counterfeits.

Does the M60S pay back in 2026?

At a hashprice near 40 USD per PH per day, one M60S earns about 7.44 USD a day before pool fees. It pays back in roughly 360 to 510 days at 0.05 USD per kWh, over two years at 0.07 and never at 0.10. These are single-day estimates and the next difficulty adjustment is expected to cut income by about 5%.

The formula is simple. Daily energy is 3.441 kW times 24 hours, or 82.58 kWh. Gross income is hashprice times 0.186 PH/s. Net is gross minus energy cost.

The inputs are a BTC price near 83,380 USD, a network hashrate that sources put between about 1,008 and 1,108 EH/s, a difficulty near 132.7 trillion and a hashprice of about 40 USD per PH per day, all checked on 2026-10-12. A live calculator on ASICMinerpro gave 7.77 USD of gross income that day, which moves break-even from 0.090 to about 0.094 USD per kWh.

Pool fees, cooling, downtime and taxes are not included. Run your own power price through the mining calculator and compare the result with our payback table for S21 XP, S21 Pro and M60S.

The next halving is expected around April 2028. At an unchanged BTC price, gross income per machine would halve, so a machine that is marginal now will not survive it.

What firmware and pool settings does the M60S support?

The M60S ships with MicroBT stock firmware, last updated on 2025-04-21 on the official shop. LuxOS officially supports the M60S_VK20 on the H616 control board since Luxor expanded to WhatsMiner in April 2026, with a 2.8% dev fee, power targeting and fast curtailment. Braiins OS does not support WhatsMiner.

For VNish the sources conflict. One firmware guide from January 2026 says VNish is for Bitmain machines only, while a comparison site claims M60 support, which we could not verify. Do not flash it until you find a confirmed build.

The miner uses Stratum V1. Stratum V2 is not natively supported, and a pool that requires V2 would need the open-source translation proxy. The official site does not describe named low, normal and high power modes (checked 2026-10-12). LuxOS power targeting is the documented way to underclock.

Who is the M60S for, and who should skip it?

The M60S fits you if you:

  • pay up to about 0.07 USD per kWh and can host the machine in a ventilated place;
  • have single-phase 220 to 240 V power and a 16 A line;
  • want a lower entry price per machine than the newest Bitmain models;
  • accept a payback measured in a year or more.

Skip it if you:

  • pay 0.09 USD per kWh or more, where it loses money at current conditions;
  • need quiet operation or live next to neighbours;
  • want the best efficiency, which the Antminer S21 XP offers;
  • cannot afford a loss if the BTC price falls or difficulty rises.

What are the risks?

  • Difficulty. A rise of about 5.4% is estimated for 2026-10-16, which lowers every number in the table above by roughly the same share.
  • Thin margin. The gap between break-even at 0.09 USD and a typical home tariff is small.
  • Halving. Revenue per machine drops sharply after the April 2028 event if price does not compensate.
  • Heat and noise. The 86 dB measured average and the 35 degree ambient limit rule out many rooms.
  • Resale. Used prices swing widely and follow BTC.
  • Import and customs. Duties and delays depend on your country and are not published.
  • Spec drift. Power and weight differ between the manual and the shop, so confirm the version you buy.

How does the M60S compare with Antminer S21, S21 Pro, S21 XP and M66S?

The M60S has the worst efficiency in this group, 18.5 J/TH, so it only makes sense when it is cheap enough to offset the extra power. The Antminer S21 XP uses 13.5 J/TH, which is 27% less energy for each terahash.

How much does the WhatsMiner M60S cost?

The official shop lists 1,692 USD on 2026-10-12, and resellers range from 1,180 to 1,827 USD. Shipping and import duty are extra.

Is the WhatsMiner M60S profitable in 2026?

It earns about 3.31 USD a day net at 0.05 USD per kWh and loses money at 0.10. Break-even is near 0.09 USD per kWh, and the figures change with BTC price and difficulty.

Can I use Braiins OS on the M60S?

No. Braiins OS does not support WhatsMiner. LuxOS lists the M60S and VNish support is unconfirmed.

Does the M60S need three-phase power?

No. It runs on single-phase 220 to 240 V through a C19 connector rated for at least 16 A.

Is the WhatsMiner M60S worth buying in 2026?

Only at low electricity prices and a low purchase price. At 0.05 USD per kWh and about 1,200 USD it pays back in a year, and anything above 0.09 USD per kWh loses money. If you pay more, buy a more efficient machine or host with a cheaper tariff.

Before you order, enter your own tariff and the seller's price into the mining calculator and run a pessimistic case with difficulty up 10%.
